MELVILLE, N.Y., September 3, 2008 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today introduced
the Energy Internet Connection Module (ICM), a device designed to help home and
business owners conserve up to 15 percent of their energy use by managing their
consumption online. By logging onto a secure web site, users can access
information that includes the amount of energy their homes or businesses are
expending through heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. The
web site also provides tips for adjusting the system to conserve energy and save
money.
“Customers are accustomed to receiving energy-savings tips on their monthly
statements after they’ve expended more energy than necessary,” said Tim
Trautman, senior product manager for Honeywell Cable and Custom Electronics.
“The Energy ICM is designed to provide tips in real time, allowing people the
opportunity to curb consumption and noticeably reduce their monthly utility
bills.”
Energy Saving Impact
The Energy ICM is the latest
addition to Honeywell’s award-winning ICM product line, which offers convenience
by allowing users to control security, lighting and HVAC systems from
web-enabled devices such as PCs, laptops, PDAs and cell phones. The Energy ICM’s
online portal provides detailed reports on energy consumption including how much
time an HVAC system ran over the previous day, week or even month, and how that
data compares to averages in the local area. The instant feedback feature then
displays messages informing the user how much energy they can save over a
certain time period by adjusting their thermostats, even by a single degree.
Lifestyle-Enhancing Features
The easy-to-use website
allows home and business owners the ability to program thermostats by entering
personal information, including the time they typically leave the home, return
from work and go to bed, and what temperature they want the house to be at those
times. Additionally, the device— which connects to and controls the Honeywell
VisionPRO IAQÒ
and FocusPROÒ
thermostats—can provide instant alerts via e-mail about incidents including
system malfunctions and abnormal temperatures.
The Energy ICM also can work in conjunction with other ICMs. For example,
integrators can program the system to lower thermostat settings when a homeowner
arms the security system. This functionality enables integrators to customize
the system to fit their customers’ unique needs.
